Woven gabion mesh is primarily designed for soil erosion control, bank stabilization, and river training in civil engineering projects. Additionally, based on height, gabions are categorized as gabion boxes or gabion mattresses. A gabion mattress, being a flatter, shorter version of the gabion basket, is ideal for low-lying areas such as riverbeds and dams.
